Inaugurated on April 23, 1979, the Sculpture Space emerged as an idea of the sculptor Federico Silva in 1977, with the purpose of capturing the plastic arts and the geometric sculpture movement in Mexico in a natural environment.
The center of this space is located in the area of the University Cultural Center, on a natural terrain surface. It is composed of two parts, a platform and a series of geometric figures.
Its outer diameter is 120 meters, while the inner area measures 92.78 meters, with a platform width of 13.61 meters. This platform is built from volcanic stone and a series of modules with a rectangular base of 9x 3 meters and a height of 4 meters are erected on it.
The UNAM Sculpture Space is located at Mario de la Cueva s/n, Ciudad Universitaria and can be visited freely, except for the main complex, which is open Monday to Friday from 7 am to 4 pm. Access is free of charge.
